Sikinos
is located about midway between Ios and Folegandros in the Cyclades island
group of Greece. Sikinos has so far remained quiet and relatively
undeveloped in contrast with more popular island destinations. There are
two villages located on Sikinos, Alopronia, the harbor for
the island, and Kastro, which is considered one of the most beautiful
villages in all the Cyclades.
There are many ancient ruins to
be seen on Sikinos, as well as many taverns. The Zoodohos Pigi is
a monastery that was built on the peak of a rock, and looks much
like a castle from a distance.
Sikinos has, through the
centuries, held on to its peacefulness and traditional culture, and makes
a wonderful visiting spot for those looking for serenity and authentic
Cycladic culture and tradition. |
