Serifos,
is located in the Cyclades island group of Greece in the beautiful Aegean
Sea, just south of Kythnos.
Legend has it that when Acrisius
was warned that he would be killed by his grandson, Perseus, he cast him,
along with the babys mother Danae, into a vessel and set them adrift at
sea. Serifos is where the vessel eventually came ashore. Rock formations
found at Seriphos mysteriously resemble the myth of this story, as if they
had all been turned to stone.
In the main town of Serifos
or Hora, you will find small cube shaped houses and churches in
the traditional Cycladic design. With a Venetian castle looming above,
it has been notably referred to as a fairy tale town. From the village
of Panagia, you can see a panoramic view of the entire island. At Livadi,
you will find a beautiful horseshoe shaped beach.
